I changed wire from 20 gauge to 30 gauge, 30 seems to work better for me. Found it:Īny chance i can weld this in without gas? Been practicing this afternoon, think i can get it welded up.not professional looking but it will have to do. Len has a good welding video that I'm going to try and find now. You said, "progressing slowly" to which I'll add, but it IS progressing. Must be someone you know who can weld this for you with your welder or theirs. LOTS of welding examples on YouTube or 'network' the job. You've got some simple welding to do, actually. I have no training in welding whatsoever so i don't even know if i have the proper equipment. I have a horbart 140 115 volt mig welder with 20 gauge wire. Really leaning towards structural adhesive.I'm going to practice welding later today but so far my skills are pretty poor. I'm painting the pieces that need it today. Everything mocked up, it all measures out straight so far Progressing slowly, my day job is getting in the way of my life. With the work you're doing on the new car you should see that there isn't much more to remove to get the engine out. (now that's a joke for sure) but it is a lot easier than the shop lets on. Once you do it and see how easy it is you may consider removing the engine to replace the rear spark plugs. To much work for a shop to do and expect to get paid for, but for me it's just a day to play in the garage. All 4 mounts were broken.Īs for removing the motor from the bottom, once it is on a hoist and the engine sub frame is removed going down with the motor is probably easy in a shop but for a DYI'er removing the hood, condenser, radiator, fans, axel shafts, fenders and bumper and using a portable $200 engine crane removing the engine going up with the transmission intact is quite easy. My LeSabre was a front hit like that and the motor took a lot of the hit. Don't try to get by using the old ones, also check all 4 motor mounts. Be sure to buy new seals for the AC lines. I love the fact that this web site still looks and operates the way it did years ago when i found it. That's my story, and that's what brought me back to this web site after years of not being here. If it ends up being a lemon and a poor buy, at least i'm gonna go down swinging. Its a gamble, but everything seems to work on the DTS, the motor sounds strong, and.it came with new tires! If i can get another 5 years out of this vehicle i will be happy. I found a way by swapping body parts, not motors. Its not so much the money, but i would rather do it myself when i can. After what we paid for it (3000 dollars) and the money i put in it (figuring 1000 dollars) we will have a overall lower mileage vehicle for 4000 dollars. Its in excellent shape except for the damage you see. 2006 DTS with 66,000 miles from a company that sells repairables close to where we live. Scanning the web i found the car we are now fixing. I knew i could not get much for it selling it in that condition. My wife and I love the DTS ride and comfort, so it sat for 12 months. I thought about buying a used motor, but have no access to a hoist.virtually impossible for me to replace the motor without a hoist being a diy'er.I could get a low mileage northstar motor for about 1800 dollars, but was quoted around 3000 dollars to have it installed. To make it even more worse, the motor needs to come out of the bottom of the vehicle. To make matters worse, you need to pull the motor to replace the gaskets. Its not a simple matter of popping in a new head gasket on a northstar. (stay with me Henry, this story can get long).A quote of close to 5000 dollars to replace the head gaskets from the dealership. The parts car is our every day driver (2006 Caddy DTS) bought in 2009 with 56,000 miles.fast forward to 12 months ago it started eating anti freeze and diagnosed as a bad head gasket at 115,000 miles. Can i straighten this support or is there more damage here then i think? Thanks for your help. I have a parts car so i'm just swapping parts, hood/lights/bumper etc. Theres no fender damage, just hood and passenger side radiator support. I have a porta power hoping i can straighten out the passenger side upper support. Your opinions would be greatly appreciated. Got a bent radiator support hoping i can straighten it and avoid replacing it. Never had to deal with collision repair, but now Its like seeing old friends again from way back when. Its been years since i've been here, you guys taught me how to paint.
