I'm not sure where this particular model falls in Bens line up, but it turned out to be near perfect for what I was looking for. Once again, tone pot variations provided a wealth of highly useable tones.Īs you can tell, I'm pretty smitten with this pickup. With a bit of modulated delay and some added sparkle from the Bluebreaker the one was inspiring and addictive. The blend with the low output, PAF style bucker I have in the neck was near perfect providing beautiful, shimmering tones. Higher up the gain ladder, the pickup retained its note definition.remaining very eat smokey blues tones with no muddines or note smear. With a bit of overdrive, it just sang! I got lost in it for quite a while! With my trusty Texas Two Step, I was able to ape some killer Albert Collins tones. It like will tickle you gently.get you laughing.then, WHAM.smack you right upside the head! Kind of a cross between a Van Zandt Tru Vintage and an older Duncan Broadcaster. Played clean, this thing shimmers and shakes with the best of them. It sounds good no matter where I set it, but closer seems to provide a more immediate response. I generally like my pickups lower than most, but have enjoyed moving this one closer to the strings. The pickup is very sensitive to height adjustment. I realize the tone descriptions are somewhat obvious.suffice to say, this pickup has the tones I like to hear in a good bridge pickup. Excellent balance of clarity, warmth, richness and that wonderful spanky, snarky zing.with no ice-pick. ( and there are many! ) is half the fun for me!. Finding the many sweet spots along the way The pickup responds very well to the guitars volume and tone controls. A nice mix of old school vintage twang and spank with the girthier P-90/Broadcaster type tones. I'm quite impressed with the tone of this pickup. Overdrive pedals used were a Texas Two Step, Marshall Bluesbreaker and a Vox Valve Tone. Amps used were a Winfiled Thomas Elizabeth, Roland BluesCube and a V-Amp ll with headphones and through a PA. I've had the pleasure of trying a great Esquire style wind Ben made for LarryR, so I was anxious to hear how this one compared. I tried it in my USACG chambered mahogany tele. When it arrived, I was impressed with the build quailty and attention to detail.the pickup is a beauty! It clocked in around 6.7K. to close from now until mid-October.I had the pleasure of evaluating one of Benny's tele bridge pups. ![]() Spanky’s opened for the season in mid-April and is ready to serve you lunch and dinner daily from 11:00 a.m. Or enjoy their house-cut New York sirloin steaks, chicken and pasta dinners, an awesome cheeseburger or a specialty salad.
